We at Two Little Hands are grateful for the hundreds of success stories that are shared with us. These stories back the research done on signing with infants and children. Enjoy some of the amazing testimonials we have received. My daughter has been watching Baby Signing Time videos since soon after birth. Learn more on my blog. Now at 2-years-old, she knows many of the signs and really loves the colorful flash cards. I credit the creative songs with helping her pick up vocabulary quickly and teaching American Sign Language to not only her, but my husband and I too. Some of the …

The Importance of Signing and Play

Have you ever wondered, “Why isn’t my baby signing back to me yet?” Me too. When I first started signing with my daughter (at 7 months old) I had no prior knowledge of ASL or experience signing with babies. Teaching had not even entered my mind! I just loved the idea of early communication and enhanced bonding. I began by focusing on my daughter’s basic needs, using MORE and ALL DONE during mealtimes. But after two months of repetition and consistency with no response, I naturally started to lose my enthusiasm. What was I doing wrong? It wasn’t until I …

“Banana”

He was a little over a year old and no words had been spoken. He would point out into the kitchen and cry, making me go and start picking everything up saying “do you want a banana? A drink? Milk? Please God, help me decipher what my boy is needing!” One day, when he was about 2, we came across this PBS show called “Signing Time”. I watched not knowing that my son was actually paying attention. I was doing the signs with Rachel every day for a couple of weeks. One day my son pointed out into the kitchen, …

Potty Time App Ranked #1

#1 Potty Training App for Apple and Android  It has been exciting to see our free Potty Time App climb to the top of the list in both iTunes and Google Play! We’ve even “pulled up” ahead of apps created by large corporations (see search results below). That’s happened because of reviews like these: “My daughter in law just potty trained my granddaughter in 4 days with your app. My granddaughter loves to call Rachel each time she is successful and mind you, she has not had one accident since they started using this app!  She has been using this the …

Signing Time with Spanish Leads to Communication Breakthrough

By Jennifer Thorsen, SLP – winner of our Facebook Success Story Contest As a speech-language pathologist, I am no stranger to signing. I use signs as part of a total communication approach with my clients in early intervention, to facilitate communication with my own children, and with my elementary-age students who have limited verbal communication skills. However, I’ve never had a student quite like Yadi. Yadi’s ability to express herself verbally is extremely limited, and she mainly uses signs and gestures to communicate her wants and needs along with a communication device. She is also bilingual, which posed another challenge …

Such an Important Part of Our Lives

This blog post is by Mary Cook from Charlotte, NC, and is part of our Making a Difference series. I can’t imagine life without Baby Signing Time, and now Signing Time, for my daughter, Alaina, who is nineteen months. It is such an important part of our lives together and I can’t think of a single facet of her life that does not involve signing. Before Alaina was born I didn’t know any sign language with the exception of a few letters I learned as a child. I thought it was fascinating to watch babies sign and knew this was …
