Concerts in Alabama/Georgia postponed

Due to the damage done by the tornadoes in the South that have left hundred dead and thousands more without power, the planned summer concerts in the Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA areas have been postponed while the region rebuilds and recovers.   We will reschedule them when it doesn’t interfere with disaster relief efforts and the weather allows.  The thoughts and prayers of those of us planning the concerts in the affected area go out to those still without phones, power or worse.

Helping With The Concerts in Your Community

Much of the work the Signing Time Foundation does is out of the spotlight.  Education, the work in Ghana, etc, and making signing fun and accessible to all kids is generally all just day to day work.  However, the most visible part of the Signing Time Foundation is when Rachel makes appearances throughout the country.  Whether she’s talking to a group of parents (of children with Autism, or Down Syndrome, various communication disorders or the parents of kids with hearing loss), doing a presentation for professionals (in education, in therapy, in special services) or performing at a community concert, where …

Every Concert is Different!

When you see these announcements, that Rachel is going to be in Burbank, or in Portland, or in Kansas City, if you are even thinking about heading to one of those places to see her, it’s really important for you to click on the concert’s specific page and check out what makes that city’s Rachel event different than any of the others. For example, did you know that that Hopkins will be at the Burbank show with Rachel?  That’s right, he’ll be up there signing and dancing along with her, and taking photos with the kids as well.  In Portland, …

A Long Long Road – Ghana 05/08

Wednesday May 14, 2008 On the way back from Cynthia’s I took pictures of butterflies. Everyone was returning to the deaf school. On the way back, Deb and I took a detour up a dirt road to see some guesthouses that are for rent. We walked and walked for a long time up a dirt road. I started to get nervous. We saw a restaurant that claims to serve pizza. We kept walking. We found the Nevea Guest House. The Reception Door was shut and locked. There was a phone number on it. We looked around and the grounds were …

Alfred in Aburi – Ghana 08

Wednesday May 14, 2008 Today we woke up and went to Aburi to the wood carvers shops. Not that this has anything to do with anything 🙂 But I think in general people are much more friendly when you are traveling with children.I have also noticed that I am much more relaxed and less concerned when I am not traveling with children. This trip has been a piece of cake emotionally compared to January. My stress level is almost non-existent.This makes sense when you consider how many areas I was concerned about for myself and for two children.Safety, health, food and …

1 Down, 7 To Go

Robi left for Africa today. Curry and Heidi leave tomorrow. They are all going in advance to have meetings and take care of some of the business aspects and formalities so that we can hit the ground running when we arrive. I asked Curry, how we are going to get from the airport to Mampong, a one and a half hour drive. He said he will be picking us up in the Deaf School’s bus, if it is running. Why am I having flashbacks of “The God’s Must Be Crazy?” I can’t imagine it will be hard to spot us …
