Instructor-to-Instructor: 5 Lessons Learned from the Buddy Walk

By Advanced Signing Time Instructor Megan McWilliams 1. Rachel STILL gives me goose bumps. I didn’t even have to SEE Rachel before I starting getting goose bumps! I heard her sing the first note during her sound check and was excited to know that she had arrived!! 2. Holding inventory can be beneficial when the Signing Time Foundation calls you! AND keeping your Instructor Profile up-to-date is crucial. Rachel told me that she searched a 200-mile radius from Sioux Falls trying to find an Instructor willing to sell product at the Sioux Falls, SD Buddy Walk. She then stated that when she …

Notes from a Rachel Concert-Goer

“It’s Signing Time with Alex and Leeeaaahhh!”, is often the song belted out at my house by my two-year-old, Jadelyn. And to be honest, she isn’t the only one in our family who loves “Signing Time” and the entire Coleman family.  I have always had an interest in American Sign Language (ASL). I took some introductory courses in college for fun and used a little basic sign in my classroom as a first grade teacher. Naturally, as I became a parent, I was interested in teaching sign to my infant too. I read online about basic “baby” signs and read …

Rachel Concerts are for Everyone!

Ever wanted to tell the members of the Deaf Community all about seeing Rachel in person, but have had a hard time communicating the essence of the experience, either because you weren’t face to face, or because your ASL isn’t at that level?  Well, the 2011 Instructor of the year, RID-certified interpreter Christie O’Neill has made this easy for you by signing and voicing this explanation for you: [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khHlD1CrPaA&version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0] Thank you, Christie! *Note, Hopkins does not come to all of the events, but if you’d like him to come to your local event, please contact your local organizer!

Want to see what a concert looks like?

If you head on over to the past events section, and click on the Camden – 2011 concert.  There you can see a couple videos, including the Colors of the Rainbow song and the Silly Pizza song.  You can see how happy and engaged the kids are, and how much fun they are having.  It’s nice to see how communities get engaged at these concerts all around the nation!

Concerts in Alabama/Georgia postponed

Due to the damage done by the tornadoes in the South that have left hundred dead and thousands more without power, the planned summer concerts in the Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA areas have been postponed while the region rebuilds and recovers.   We will reschedule them when it doesn’t interfere with disaster relief efforts and the weather allows.  The thoughts and prayers of those of us planning the concerts in the affected area go out to those still without phones, power or worse.

Every Concert is Different!

When you see these announcements, that Rachel is going to be in Burbank, or in Portland, or in Kansas City, if you are even thinking about heading to one of those places to see her, it’s really important for you to click on the concert’s specific page and check out what makes that city’s Rachel event different than any of the others. For example, did you know that that Hopkins will be at the Burbank show with Rachel?  That’s right, he’ll be up there signing and dancing along with her, and taking photos with the kids as well.  In Portland, …
