Signing our way back to school! “We Are Going To Be Friends”

Level 1 ASL Students at Bingham High School in Utah made this fun back-to-school video that features the song “We are Going to be Friends” by the White Stripes. Watch it here. ASL: Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman sign in McCartney video

This recent Paul McCartney music video of his song “My Valentine” features actors Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp using American Sign Language (ASL). The answer has to do with the use of classifiers within the context – and the differences between ASL and British Sign Language (BSL). Caught on video: First Lady Michelle Obama signing!

Recently, President Barack Obama was caught on video signing with a Deaf supporter. (See video here.) It turns out that First Lady Michelle Obama knows some sign language, too! President Obama caught on video using ASL!  As reported in Distriction Stephon stood just a few feet away from Barack Obama. The president, busy shaking hands, looked right at him. “It was like he was waiting for me to say something,” he said later. So the 26-year-old Prince George’s Community College student took his cue and spoke to President Obama in his first language: American Sign Language. “I am proud of you,” Stephon signed.
